Sculptor Xolile Williams grew up in Tsomo in the Transkei and watched his grandfather carving from wood and followed in his footsteps working in wood as well. He came to Cape Town to seek work as a young man and become a professional boxer and started carving boxing trophys from wood and paper mache. Around this time he had a vision about sculpting angels and decided to work with cement, the technique which took him about year to perfect. He is often referred to as the angel man and has been hard at work creating wonderful pieces having recently started working at Montebello Centre from his business Angel Works by Williams. Williams is a very versatile artist and creates sculptures which include animals, mermaids and other forms. He does work by commission, having recently completed six wonderful sculptures for a seafood restaurant all with a whimsical fish theme!
